Residue:

Selections from the flat files

The Museum of Fear and Wonder is dedicated to the display and interpretation of material objects and craftwork weighted by physical presence and emotional pull.  We are, put simply, a heavy institution.

In this exhibit, we consider the lighter side of our museum's collection. Showcased, are a rarely seen selection of images from the Museum's flat file archives: photos, ephemera, and imprints of human history. Rather than fully embodying the past and its stories, these collections act as records ----surfaces over which human lives and memories have travelled and left their traces.  The fragile and delicate nature of these documents often belies their ability to forcibly impact their audience. They quite literally bring us face to face with the events, people and feelings that etched them many years ago.
